Letterman to promote The Tourist some funnystories

I just got done watching Johnny Depp on David Letterman which is a late night talk show here in the states for those that don't know. He was there to promote the movie, The Tourist. Some good stories he told so funny.

They opened speaking about Edward Scissor Hands. About how hot the suit was and Johnny said it was like being wrapped up in all this leather and stuff. Since they filmed in Florida Johnny said he was so hot. After filming one scene 9 times he had been running in the scene and ran to the side of a house and let loose....Letterman said what does that mean. Johnny blushed and chuckled a little and said he puked from the heat.

He talked about a dare to watch Angelina's dog which is some huge 170 pound bull dog. Johnny said he and a few of the guys took the dog "Joc" up to his room and the dog smelled real bad. They got the dog up on the bed and the guys left. Johnny leaned over to take off his boots and the dog charged him. He said it felt like 300 pounds..lol..And Letterman and Johnny were teasing about it. Johnny said that the dog was making passes at him and trying to have his way with him....lol.

Letterman said he was going to play a scene from The Tourist and for Johnny to explain it. All Johnny said about the movie was he was a math teacher and on vacation. Letterman had to pull that out of him. As for the scene Johnny didn't have much to say on it. He said he does his job, leaves and the rest is up to everyone else and he is done with it. That's when he mention about not watching his movies. Of Course Letterman knew this because they spoke about it last time Johnny was on the show promoting a film.

Then Letterman asked about Brad Pitt and if Johnny knew him and Johnny said he had met him early on when Brad was on Jump Street. Then they talked about how he didn't like doing Jump Street at all, but appreciates where it got him too....He also was asked if he gets friendly with the other actors. I know he does you see it cause he acts with some of the same actors in several films. He did say most of the times he gets to be good friends with the actors he works with and other times it's hit and run..lol.

Oh and then they spoke about Al Pacino and how Johnny was with him in Donnie Brasco. Johnny again told David he doesn't watch his movies. But that Al was great and said "he's Al Pacino"..lol...and then that Al was certifiably insane and kept telling Johnny the same joke over and over again. Johnny said he couldn't understand it and each time he felt more stupid than the last time until he finally got it. Now I didn't get it so here it is and if anyone gets it tell me. " A skeleton walks into a bar and asks for a beer and a mop" what's that?

He spoke about the kids, Jack 8 and Lily Rose 11, it was so cute the expression he got when he mentioned them. The kids speak of course both English and French. The joke is and Johnny giggled, was that when he has to talk in French the kids laugh and correct him..lol..cute, right?

Oh and he said that he just got done last week with filming POTC 4. He did say that Jack Sparrow is his favorite character he's played and he can do those crazy things and get away with it..lol
They then went on and talked about him showing up at that girl Bea's school in London...lol. He said some kids were happy and some were scared..lol....so cute. They only were working 300 yards away and called 5 minutes before coming over. The kids were all put in one big room together to see him......

Guess what, he is wearing his ear rings again in his left ear! He also had on a hat of course, but this hat looked like one he wore on JS and it had holes in it so I think it was. He also had on the same leather wrist band too from all these years going back to JS. Oh and how can we forget the boots..lol....he dresses in layers too but it's cold out. Here is a picture of the Hat from JS days that he wore last night.


I tried like 8 times to get the picture of him from Jump Street over from Photo bucket to show the leather wrist band he wore last night. They re-did photo bucket and some how I got the hat picture over but the wrist one kept coming up not there.....oh I hate that...well sorry for one less pic but I think you know the leather wrist band I'm talking about. Back to my thoughts.

He was only an hour in a half from where I live. If I would have known I might have tried to go up and get tickets to go in and watch when they filmed the show!

Well come on we need some action on this board anyone see this? Any comments? Take care, Sue

I just saw this online today. Someone explained on another board that the skeleton would have to clean up his mess with a mop because the drink that he orders would get everywhere once he ingests it.

I'm glad that they covered different things this time around. I was amused to hear that Johnny remembered Brad from 21JS and I was also impressed when he remembered the name of the little school girl who wrote to him about wanting him to join her mutiny. Aww, that's sweet.

I liked that tidbit from Edward Scissorhands. I had heard someone say something about that in some JD biography before, so I'm glad it was brought up.

It was an enjoyable interview. Letterman seems to genuinely appreciate Johnny. I heard that once Johnny's part was over Letterman said that he already missed him. Aww, lol

I noticed he's wearing his 3 hoop earrings again

The interview took a boring start with the same ol questions (why he doesn't watch his own movies, etc etc) and I was disappointed he didn't go into Jump Street questions more. They always ask the same question that we already know--he didn't like doing it but appreciates what it did for him.

But thankfully the interview picked up once they started talking about Donnie Brasco.

MTV already asked him about the Jump Street movie but it would be great if Letterman brought it up too, so it would constantly be on his mind heh

Jabu, thank you for telling me that. I felt like Johnny when I heard that joke. I didn't think about the beer not going to the stomach and onto the floor. I laughed when you explained it. Oh how silly I feel I can only imagine how poor Johnny felt when he couldn't get the joke and Al kept telling it until he did.
You saw it then? I turned off the show after Johnny was over so I didn't hear Letterman saying that. I was just happy they, like you said covered so many things. And about POTC 4 was done being filmed, now like Johnny says it's up to the other's to do their work on it..lol...

Yeah, Johnny is very somber, kind of shy though he'll talk and laugh but he isn't full of himself which I'm so glad about. Thanks so much again for explaining that joke to me..lol...Sue

I don't watch MTV. They had something with Johnny on it? What did he say about JS besides what he told Letterman? I know he didn't like doing it but some of it he had to have liked, like his co-workers he joked around with. Also there were a few times they let him go a little on his character. He improvised a bit on certain things. And he did get to dress up like a girl. He does that in Before the fall of Night and he looks good like he looked good in JS as the blonde mom. And he dress up as a woman in Ed Woods. So there has to be some things he enjoyed though he wasn't fully happy with the show.
I was thrilled to see him on Letterman though. I wish he spoke a little more about his kids. I just adored the way he looked talking about them for that minute..lol...Sue

Jabu, I didn't know that there was even a JD bio book out there, or are you speaking about the inter net? He's so private that's why I didn't think there were books on his life, just tibits and facts he allowed to come out. thanks Sue

I agree and I think he exaggerates his dislike of doing the show, but he's definitely not as bad about it as he was before. When you look at the behind the scenes stuff, the bloopers, he obviously had some fun and made friends.

I got curious and googled Johnny Depp interviews and got a page like Youtube but it's not. Though this site has videos of interviews done live. Well there was the MTV video and it was good and some other ones. Here's the link if anyone is interested several interviews with some cool things over the years.

Oh definately, he had to enjoy the show to a point. I think he just didn't like the idol thing in the beginning and towards the end the movies scripts were coming in. Steven had said that Johnny had movie scripts coming in and Johnny had talked to him. Johnny said I guess you heard the rumor that I may leave and Steven said yes. Johnny told him he wouldn't walk out of his contract and would do the show even though he wanted to do the movies. I believe he made a movie during the late Jump street fourth season and is the reason why he isn't in a lot of them. But Steven let him out of his contract after the fourth season and they parted on good terms it was Steven's idea because of how honest Johnny was and good to his word he was too. I thought that was so cool to hear. Sue
